Emmanuel: God with us

The nativity scene carved in woodAdvent God's gift to you is Love; born in Jesus Christ.

Christmas Day celebrates the birth of Jesus - God taking on humanity as a vulnerable baby born into poverty. God who transcends all things and all time also meets us in our earthly living. Jesus Christ, Son of God and God himself, enters the world to bring the good news of God's love for all who will receive the gift.

Luke's gospel (chapter 2) tells the story of the birth of Jesus and the visit of the shepherds.

What is your gift to God?

What can I give him poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb.
If I were a wise man, I would do my part.
Yet, what I have I give him – I give my heart.

From the hymn: 'In the Bleak Mid-Winter' by Christina Rossetti (1830-94)

The Twelve Days of Christmas

This traditional carol may have been written as a mnemonic to help children remember the main beliefs of the Christian faith. Interesting stuff to be found on the CRI/Voice Website.
