Counted Time of the Church Year
Ordinary Time is of course anything but ordinary!
Ordinary Time is used to focus on various aspects of the Faith, especially the mission of the church in the world. This is the long 'green season' - the colour of growth and life - and it doesn't mean commonplace or average.
It comes from "ordinal" which simply means "counted time" as we number the Sundays... 2nd Sunday after Pentecost, 3rd Sunday after Pentecost and so forth, which is probably a better way to think of this time of the year. Ordinary time is also counted between Candlemass (2nd February) and Ash Wednesday (the beginning of Lent which falls on a different day each year).
Heaven in Ordinary

Angela Ashwin, who once lived in West Newcastle Deanery, wrote a book entitled 'Heaven in Ordinary'. It is worth buying. In it she describes many situations which we think of as 'ordinary' and helps us see the heavenly nature of them – finding God where we least expect. So look out for God in your ordinary life as you travel through Ordinary Time.
May God of the ordinary things bless you and guide you through your days.
